How we got started
The vision for WWE began in 2015 and was officially formed by Jacky Kowa
and Anne Ouru in 2019 after Jacky returned from her Mandela Washington Fellowship in the United States in 2018, a fellowship program funded by the Department of State that was launched by then-President Barack Obama as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders. Jacky’s fellowship focused on public management and she brought back with her knowledge and skills in:
- Ubuntu spirit
- Public Service
- Mentorship
- Inclusive development
- Community Sustainability
In 2020, Anna also become an alumna of YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa with a focus on business and entrepreneurship (cohort 39). Together with the rest of the team, WWE began to give back to their community, one woman at a time. Now, WWE is a local Community Based Organization registered in Kwale and Mombasa, by the office of social services department. The project seeks to work closely with the Kwale County Government departments and the Community, to create a sustainable model to improve the health outcomes and reduce the economic and social vulnerability of youth and Adolescent Girls and Young Women in marginalized communities.
